Sega
released its version of Magic The Gathering to its Dreamcast game
system in Japan on June 28, 2001. The game retails for ¥6800. The Dreamcast version of Magic
includes mostly Sixth Edition cards, with a few others splashed in.
The game also has ten custom cards only available on that system. Like the MicroProse game
before it, each of these cards features a random element easily
implemented electronically.
Sega has announced
that it will cease production of the Dreamcast system. While Sega remains
committed to the platform and to games currently in development, it is
unclear whether or not the Magic product will ever be released in English.
No North American or European release date has been announced. Sega has also announced that it will begin developing games for other
platforms, so we may see Magic for PS2 and
Xbox.
